Wouldn't really say its "ripped off", its intentionally taking the piss.
Its not a BBC original either, it started with a load of webisodes on youtube (think they're sitll online somewhere) in about 2011.
Re the original it was based on, Towerblock Dreams, there were 3 episodes. The first one was about Charlie Sloth and Skinnyman, the second was the one about Y2K FM, and the third was about a couple of other people I can't remember. Cannot find ANY trace of the other 2 episodes online anywhere.
Does anyone from the Southend area know whats happened to any of the characters from the Y2K episode? They'd all be nearly 40 now.

I like him but he was a CUNT in the Towerblock Dreams documentary. Was a scene where he spent about 5 minutes showing the camera all these scars he got from being stabbed. Made Killer from Y2K seem level headed and dignified.

Wikipedia also has Charlie Sloth's age as just turned 29, which can't be true as the TBD documentary was shown in 2004 and showed him driving around etc and was definitely older than 17...

Maybe ripped off is harsh. I didn't mean it as a criticism, I love the series.
But some of the characters are completely based on people in TBD. Some of them have the same names.
The acting in it is quality - the bloke that plays beats is brilliant.

The BBC sticks this brilliant piece of comedy on BBC3 which is now online only but will air completely unfunny SHIT like Citizen Khan on BBC1.
